COMMON DOG HEALTH PROBLEMS

COMMON DOG HEALTH PROBLEMS

Paying attention as a dog owner one can make a difference in your pets quality of life.  Getting caught up in one aspect of their dogs health care, the pet owner might miss something else painful or a worse problem.

We put together common dog health problems that may be treated as normal, often overlooked and ignored.  Please see your Veterinarian immediately if your dog shows any signs or symptoms on this list.

1.  CHRONIC EAR INFECTIONS

Dog owners bring their pets in  for ear infection treatment.  The tough part is the follow up treatment such as giving ear drops and visiting the Vet for a follow up appointment.  Please don't confuse "common" with "normal", especially for our floppy ear friends.  Ear problems for dogs can be itchy and very painful.  Your dog deserves that trip to the Vet and treatment to keep his ears healthy.

2.  CANINE DENTAL DISEASES

Just like humans, dogs require dental care.  "Dog Breath" should not be considered normal or inevitable.  Keep a close eye on your dogs gums and teeth.  It is as simple as lifting their lips an looking for plaque,  inflammation, bleeding, damaged teeth, infection and bone loss.  Pay attention when they are eating that they are not in pain.

3.  DERMATITIS (SKIN INFECTIONS) AND BITING PESTS

When dogs are being bitten by fleas, ticks  or other pests it is time for parasite control.  Skin problems and common rashes can drive your dog insane with itching so please do not ignore if your dog is chronically scratching.  Care for your dogs skin as you care about yours.

4. ARTHRITIS

Arthritis can be brought on  by injury, infection, the body's own immune system, and obesity just to name a few. You may think as your dog slows down with old age that their is nothing you can do.  You can improve your dogs quality of life! Talk to your Veterinarian about pain management, physiotherapy, and other types of treatment.

5. OBESITY

OBESITY KILLS.  Just like humans, letting your dog become overweight can cause long term health problem in your beloved friend.  For example,  if your dog has arthritis,  the obesity can make the pain so severe that they may be unable to walk.  Diabetes and hypertension are two other health problems your dog may get.  You can end the suffering by helping your dog loose weight. Have an honest conversation with your vet and listen and follow their recommendations.
